Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, First Deputy of the Minister of Finance.

Born on January 10, 1948, in Leningrad.

Has higher education, candidate of economic sciences, lecturer.

Before serving in the Army graduated from the Leningrad Technical School of Power Engineering. After service entered the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, then post graduate study.

Then taught in the Leningrad Institute of Soviet Trade and in the Leningrad Institute of Economics and Finance.

1978-1988 - assistant, senior lecturer, the Leningrad Institute of Soviet Trade.

1988-1991 - senior lecturer, reader of Leningrad Institute of Economics and Finance.

1991-1992 - Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.

1992 - Deputy Minister of Finance.

1992-1993 - Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

1993-1996 - Deputy Minister of Economy.

1996-1997 - Assistant of President of Russia.

1997-till present - first Deputy Minister of Finance.

In 1997 was awarded with the medal "In the Memory of the 850th anniversary of Moscow".

In 1998 was awarded with the Diploma of the RF Government.

In 2001 received gratitude from President of Russia.

On March 20, 2002, was confirmed in his position as Chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Member of the Board of the Ministry of Finance.

The author of 20 scientific articles.

Married.
